88th Texas Legislative Session

January 14 , 2025 - June 2, 2025

Legislative Agenda 2025

Our legislative priorities aim to advance legislation that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in higher education, student rights, academic freedom, and ensure equitable access to resources and opportunities.

1. Restoration and Expansion of DEI Programs

2. DEI Accountability and Transparency

3. Protecting Academic Freedom and Student Rights

4. Enhancing Affordability and Access for Marginalized Students

5. Workforce Readiness and Inclusive Practices

  • We will advocate for the reinstatement and expansion of DEI initiatives affected by SB 17, emphasizing programs that provide financial aid, scholarships, and mentorship for underserved and underrepresented students.

  • We will support legislation that protects and enhances events and physical spaces for expression and belonging, such as cultural graduation, ensuring that all students have opportunities to celebrate and share their identities

  • We will advocate for legislation requiring universities to measure and publicly report the impact of DEI bans on student enrollment, campus climate, and equity-based outcomes.

  • We will push for mechanisms that hold legislators and universities accountable for supporting diversity and equitable practices while ensuring clear progress is documented and shared.

  • We will advocate for legislative protections for academic freedom in coursework, curriculum, and research, especially for studies of marginalized communities.

  • We will advocate for legislation that upholds student rights and ensure equitable treatment, particularly for marginalized and underserved populations.

  • We will protect access to higher education for undocumented and mixed-legal status students.

  • We will advocate for reinstating scholarships and financial programs, such as Monarch scholarships and study abroad initiatives, that support underserved student populations.

  • We will advocate for policies that emphasize workforce readiness through inclusive DEI practices, ensuring students from all backgrounds and identities are prepared for diverse professional environments.
