Texas Students Fight for DEI

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AUSTIN, Texas - Students of the University of Texas (UT) System have launched a statewide petition in support of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives in the Texas higher educational system. On February 22, the University of Texas System Board of Regents’ Chairman, Kevin Eltife, announced a system-wide pause on all new diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies, along with a full review of all current DEI policies by the Board. The Texas Students for DEI’s Petition urges the University of Texas System Board of Regents’ Chairman to withdraw his declaration against and resume support of all new DEI policies.
For students in the UT System, a university without DEI is an environment that does not prepare graduates for a productive future in a global society. DEI initiatives have proven to enrich educational experiences, enhance learning outcomes, prepare students for entrance into the workforce and foster the ability to create a society reflective of all individuals who live in it. By signing the petition, you as students, parents, alumni, and fans can ensure that the diversity in which this nation was founded upon, is sustained.
"We, the students of the UT System, recognize the value of learning from diverse perspectives. We represent every background and deserve to thrive in learning environments that welcome, support, and embrace different identities. We believe every university has the responsibility to cultivate and implement their own DEI policies meant to support the unique needs of their students, faculty, and staff."
